Opportunities (part 2)

((Following on from the Opportunities story, Hyle and I realised that this story was going to get complicated and would require a lot of dialogue. Our normal method of taking turns to produce a post just wasn't going to do it so we decided to try and do something neew and instead did a 'slow motion' kind of RP via messaging. This post is the result. The story isn't over yet though as Joe still has to... well, read on and you'll see where it's going.

The unlucky one

 Approximately a week ago:

Jack looked at his own reflection in window of one of the Flagstaff houses and sighed. It has been only few days since someone trashed his workplace and since then he has been having some hard times.

As if out of a sudden nobody needed "talent scouts" anymore. "Maybe The Union could have some use for me" he thought as he crossed the street. Roar of the engine and screeching of tires disturbed his thoughts

"Ugh.."

Hyle rolled over.

"Stop smirking" She mumbled with a scowl.

"Why do you drink so much?" Shad lay on his side with his head reasting on his arm.

"Because saturday is my day off, It's a party. I can put everything else out of my mind."

"Mhh  I guess."

Hyle rolled out of the bed, struggling to her feet and headed for the shower. Shad followed her to the bathroom, enjoying the rear view.

"Hyle...?"

"What!?!"

"Your gonna take your panties off before you shower, right...?"

The Road to Home.

Rating:

It'd been several hours since She had a talk with Hyle in the small reception room at the Hostle, and Jess found herself more than a little upset by it over all. What Hyle might have thought was apprihension was more like a struggle with emmotions that were at odds with the situation in general, and also with feeling like she was being threatened with being removed from one of the very few places she actually felt comfortable much less safe these days.

The question is. What would she do next?”

Ok. So it had been a hard day, Hyle was feeling the pressure mounting. She sat back on her office chair absent-mindedly tapping the blotter with the end of her pencil.

Wesley Drayton , Accountant of Hope Springs. Yes they even thought of making accountant clones.

Wesley was efficient, precise, diligent. Absolutely the right man for keeping Hope Springs finances in order.

And so fucking mind-crushingly boring!

As Hyle sat through his quarterly report,

And even though the details were typed in fine detail on the desk in front of her.

And even though the books were balancing.

Hyle was thinking.

Sunday Morning

The sun was shining.

Too bright

The birds sang

Too loud.

The front door opened,

"MOM!"

Too loud.

"Mom, where are you? I brought Ichiro for you to look after, like we arranged..?

I'm dreaming this... I hope..

“Guhhhh…!”

Sunday Morning. Hyle was half asleep, feeling the after effect of another great party. It was the sound of a motor outside and men calling instructions outside that woke her. She wondered what the noise was.

Outward, the Circles Grow. [4]

Officer Kopkage tapped on the door and pushed it open. The office was bright, not as big as he had expected but still well appointed, functional. The furnishings were simple, to one side a row of filing cabinets stood to attention and to the other, a comfortable sofa took pride of place next to a large window which looked out onto a low stone veranda.

Dusty Journal, Page Three

Dear Journal,

That cliche again. As usual, it fits. Wonder when I'll stop that? For now, maybe not since it works, right?
To say that I was excited to wake up on saturday is an understatement. It was party day, and not just any party, but at the famous Waffle Hus of Hope Springs. I remember well enough about the party, that Hyle is the woman in charge, its her baby and she revels in it to the fullest, at least, thats what I can remember. This will be the first one I can remember attending in a very long time.

Epiphany

Ytte stumbled through to Hyle’s kitchen. There was a note propped up against the kettle. The note was concise.

‘Ytte. Sorry we are not there. Needed at the hostel. Help yourself to breakfast, Coffee in the thermos. Hyle xx’

“Upps!” Hyle pulled the hem of her skirt down as she made herself comfortable in the seat of the car. “Absolutely not made for driving!” She grinned.

“You are not…. Umm..” Ytte pointed out.

Kulturschock! [2]

Ytte closed her eyes and let the warm water flow over her body. It felt good, much better than the tepid showers in a cloning pod. No dribbling tepid water. No industrial carbolic soap. This water was as warm as she could stand it, there was plenty pressure in the stream, and the soap. The soap smelled of vanilla. Ytte felt something she realised she had missed for such a long time. She felt feminine, she felt like a lady again.

“Saturday is my day off!” Hyle announced.

Ytte dabbed her mouth and helped clear the breakfast away.

“So, lazy day. Then prepare for tonight’s party. Of course you are welcome to stay here as long as you need, Ytte. We can get to know each other a little more maybe?. And of course you MUST come to the party this eve.”

The Art of Laughter

Veronica looked again at the painting. 'This is pre-electric light style?' she asked.

Hyle smiled. 'Pre-Raphealite,' she corrected. 'It is Pre-Raphealite. I painted a Pre-Raphealite V V'

'I have not read the poem,' Veronica said. 'What did you say it is called? The Lady of Shallots?'

Hyle could hold back no longer and burst into laughter. Veronica looked to Hyle confused first, then smiled, then grinned, then also burst into laughter.

Two Years and centuries later.

It was not long after noon when Ytte finally reached the outskirt of Hope Springs. She paused, the streets were quiet, pretty much everyone had been beaten indoors by the savage Arizona summer sun.

“Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”

“What did?” Theis stopped grinding coffee beans and put the machine to one side.

“When Reavy showed up after the party, I was so happy. I have not seen her for months.”

“No, it’s OK. I’ll get Theis to lift the ammo up to you.”

Hyle backed the Rover up close to Reavy’s tank. Theis wondered what it was exactly he had let himself in for when he took the barista job at The Waffelhus.

“Nice shade of pink, Hyle.” Reavy said with a tiny bit of enthusiasm.

The Waffelhus Gets a Facelift

Hyle had decided several weeks before the birth of Ichiro that The Waffelhus was looking a bit dreary, even the clinic was looking more modern.

Her first thought was to get Taiyoko in to do some odd jobs, but she decided that he was probably to busy, what with impending fatherhood, the job at Joe's factory and what-not.

So she tracked down a team of builders. Oz, Moxy, Neville, Wayne and Dennis from New Flagstaff.

"Err. Ya divvent need any roofin work d'yer, Pet? Coz wha havvint got a roofer see. Eez.. err ,dissapeerd ... somewhere"

'Why does she decide to paint when it is so cold?' Sharky complained sitting in a room in the house of Hyle.

'Keep still!' Hyle called out with a paintbrush in her hand. 'Or you will be a blur in the painting.'

'Keep still when shivering?' Sharky grumbled. He moved his gaze to Veronica sitting beside him. 'Why are you not cold?'

'It is not so cold,' Veronica replied. 'Imagine being warm, sunshine, sauna, campfire, hot soup-'

'Okay, okay' Sharky said. He closed his eyes a moment before opening them again. 'No, still cold,' he said.

“For Helvede!. I see you once in a lobster season, you just turn up. Then you want to disappear again!”

Hyle felt angry and the same time upset. She could not decide which emotion to show Reavy so she settled for a pout in the hope that would work.

Sunday Morning

Sunday mornings can be wonderful. Especially in Springtime. The bright sun rises into a crystal blue sky, birds sing, and there is a perfectly peaceful silence that exists before the bustle of the town ensues. In short, all the promise of a perfect day.

Hyle opened her eyes to her sun-filled bedroom. The fresh spring morning filled her senses...

For a few seconds…

“Ååååååhhh.... Nejjjj...”
