The Murder - Cause and Effect

Rating:

Amid the general kicking off of shoes and the sighs of relief, after all, high heels were not best suited for the long walk back to Hyle’s house on the compacted dirt roads of Hope Springs, Hyle, Kirsten and Tuki took their places leaning against the table and worktops in Hyle’s kitchen as the room filled with the smell of brewing coffee.

The Murder - A Farewell to Magrat

While Shadow slept, Hyle was sitting at the kitchen table, pen in hand well into the wee hours.

The recent developments at The Constabulary, the arrest of the Stanton boys, the deaf and dumb supper she had just shared with Shadow, all weighed heavily on Hyle’s mind, interfering with the task in hand, namely the speech she was to give at Magrat’s funeral.

Constable Alana headed back towards the constabulary, mentally preparing her report on the conversation she had just finished with young Evan Stanton. She would copy her notes and the boy’s statement up to date over a coffee then place the report on The Chief’s desk. Then.. then she would probably head home for some well earned sleep.

The Murder - Civic Responsibilities

In all fairness, Hyle’s diversion to The Constabulary was a welcome relief. It gave her a moment away from the deeply saddening task of making the arrangements for Magrat’s funeral. To be honest, a bunch of folk having a picnic, or a sit-in or whatever it was supposed to be, was not the item on the top of her agenda.

So it was no small amount of trepidation that Hyle felt as she walked down the slope from her car into Longhands’ north camp.

Hyle looked in the mirror, the bags under her eyes were evidence of a sleepless night. Her mind had been full of the previous day’s events and the fact Shadow had been out all night investigating did not help.

It was around two in the afternoon. Hyle was leaning on the edge of her desk, looking out of her office window. Her office door was closed and the blind was down. She had left explicit instructions with her staff that she was not to be disturbed.

Wesley Drayton had cleared his throat before speaking and felt compelled to clear it again as the cold stare coming from the other side of Mayor Hyle Troy’s desk increased the discomfort he felt. The Head of Accounts for Hope Springs watched as Mayor Troy’s right eyebrow raised. Drayton shuffled in the chair.

Deadlines

It was quite late by the time Hyle got home. It had been a difficult day.

Firstly the promised delivery date for the school chairs was not going to be met by the supplier and it had taken two hours of constant demanding and a certain amount of animated discussion, lots of which were in Danish, and so spared the blushes of the manager at Oglethorpe Carpentry.

Opportunities (part 2)

((Following on from the Opportunities story, Hyle and I realised that this story was going to get complicated and would require a lot of dialogue. Our normal method of taking turns to produce a post just wasn't going to do it so we decided to try and do something neew and instead did a 'slow motion' kind of RP via messaging. This post is the result. The story isn't over yet though as Joe still has to... well, read on and you'll see where it's going.

 Approximately a week ago:

Jack looked at his own reflection in window of one of the Flagstaff houses and sighed. It has been only few days since someone trashed his workplace and since then he has been having some hard times.

As if out of a sudden nobody needed "talent scouts" anymore. "Maybe The Union could have some use for me" he thought as he crossed the street. Roar of the engine and screeching of tires disturbed his thoughts

"Ugh.."

Hyle rolled over.

"Stop smirking" She mumbled with a scowl.

"Why do you drink so much?" Shad lay on his side with his head reasting on his arm.

"Because saturday is my day off, It's a party. I can put everything else out of my mind."

"Mhh  I guess."

Hyle rolled out of the bed, struggling to her feet and headed for the shower. Shad followed her to the bathroom, enjoying the rear view.

"Hyle...?"

"What!?!"

"Your gonna take your panties off before you shower, right...?"

It'd been several hours since She had a talk with Hyle in the small reception room at the Hostle, and Jess found herself more than a little upset by it over all. What Hyle might have thought was apprihension was more like a struggle with emmotions that were at odds with the situation in general, and also with feeling like she was being threatened with being removed from one of the very few places she actually felt comfortable much less safe these days.

The question is. What would she do next?”

Ok. So it had been a hard day, Hyle was feeling the pressure mounting. She sat back on her office chair absent-mindedly tapping the blotter with the end of her pencil.

Wesley Drayton , Accountant of Hope Springs. Yes they even thought of making accountant clones.

Wesley was efficient, precise, diligent. Absolutely the right man for keeping Hope Springs finances in order.

And so fucking mind-crushingly boring!

As Hyle sat through his quarterly report,

And even though the details were typed in fine detail on the desk in front of her.

And even though the books were balancing.

Hyle was thinking.

Sunday Morning. Hyle was half asleep, feeling the after effect of another great party. It was the sound of a motor outside and men calling instructions outside that woke her. She wondered what the noise was.

Officer Kopkage tapped on the door and pushed it open. The office was bright, not as big as he had expected but still well appointed, functional. The furnishings were simple, to one side a row of filing cabinets stood to attention and to the other, a comfortable sofa took pride of place next to a large window which looked out onto a low stone veranda.

Dear Journal,

That cliche again. As usual, it fits. Wonder when I'll stop that? For now, maybe not since it works, right?
To say that I was excited to wake up on saturday is an understatement. It was party day, and not just any party, but at the famous Waffle Hus of Hope Springs. I remember well enough about the party, that Hyle is the woman in charge, its her baby and she revels in it to the fullest, at least, thats what I can remember. This will be the first one I can remember attending in a very long time.
