The Secret Adventurer's Club Second Adventure (part 5)

Lack of rainfall over the last couple of weeks had reduced the flow in the sewer’s central trough to a slow meander of thick, smelly, oily water. The slime on the walls, instead of being slick and oozing, now resembled a dried out field of giant brown, elbow scabs which broke away in clouds of dusty organic particles as all four kids paused to draw patterns and crude pictures with their sticks.

Bad day, to worse

Bubba pulled up to Beaus, and shut down the car.  It had been a long day of trying to find the parts he needed to get the Truck he was trying to repair running.  He had the frame and most of the parts, but was missing a transfer case to support the 4 wheel drive.  Everyone he found so far was either rusted through, snapped outright, or the wrong length.  A loud crash and burst of laughter from inside told him that his day was not going to get any better.

So Saturday morning came around. Breakfasts were successfully filched away between slices of bread and stuffed under shirts. Finny left almost immediately and the boys looked at each other still not quite sure if she was joking or not about the gun.

In the ebbing golden glow of the setting sun the four of them sat on the uneven kerb outside the orphanage’s main door idly watching Worms peeling back pieces of cooling tarmac with a stick.

And so it went on for most of the day until everyone started getting tired. Soon, tiredness and the heat started making everyone cranky. By mid-afternoon ‘Attack the Flag’ was losing its appeal and kids started to wander off in search of shade and water. Not long after, the game fizzled out and Finny and co were left to lick their wounds.

There was no way Finny was going to make it to the mound of debris. She was already bloody and her breath burned in her throat as her lungs and heart worked overtime to supply her body with the energy it needed to reach safety. Like Casper, Onetooth and Worms behind her, Finny knew she was going to die, torn apart by bullets coming from the hidden shooters who had ambushed them.

As he gotten close enough he reached to remove attackers helmet, holding the shotgun in half assed stance. At that moment, female voice muffled by what seemed to be extreme pain spoke to him through the helmet mask.

"Stop" she barked at him.

Wiseguy grabbed onto the helmet, trying to pull it up confident his oponent was too wounded to resist.

"Why would i?" he asked with a smirk as his colleague also stared moving up, not liking how the shotgun bearing wiseguy stood between him and the attacker.

"Hammertime" she said as she raised her head up to get on his eyelevel, her voice suddenly calm as she stopped faking the pain...

Little Girl Lost - Worse things

The small yellow motorcycle stalled,

a thick bubbling mass of green, black and brown sludge oozed from the girl into the engine

Trapped, her and the small passenger struggled to separate themselves from the cripped machine

but the sticky foulness held them tight.

Help came, Hyle extended a hand but the putrid blob of goo pulled her in, screaming.

Heaven and Hell (part 1)

The room was filled with a jumble of tubes various containers, bubbling and swirling depending on where you looked.  The small man was covered head to toe in his leather suit, his eyes hidden behind goggles.  His breathing was labored as he rushed around making adjustments and switching dials, occasionally giggling at the results.  He was the a-typical image of what someone thought of when you said “Tech”.

“So how are we doing Renfield?” Damion’s voice echoed slightly in the large room.  He leaned on the railing above the area watching the Tech work. “Are we good?”

A Proper Deal

Damion sat back in the char absentmindedly flipping a knife in his hand as he recalled the conversation with Finny.  The small blade slipped between his fingers and rolled across the back of his hand as if it was alive.  The red chip he was previously been doing the same thing with was sitting at the edge of the table.  If Finny returned with the item he wanted she would leave here with the chip, no questions asked, and the deal was between them.  No one would be told.  They had even “spit an’ shook” on the d

A game of Cat and Mouse

Damion knew right away the young redhead that walked in was different than the rest of the children he had seen today.  Most saw the plate of cookies, bags of chips, and assorted cans of soda on the table.  Their surface thought immediately went to what to take, and how much they could consume.

This one ignored the table and took in Damion behind the desk, and if anyone else was in the room, or observing from a hidden spot.  She assessed the situation and was wary of the warm smile he offered, and what may be in the snacks or drinks.

Damion stooped and looked at the crude drawing in the dust.  The crew was in full swing cleaning up the old Diamond Lili’s building, but a few chips and they agreed to leave this room for last.

Also, I think Silja has matured a little in the past year so a few tweaks here also.

“Yes, Little Brother.  What do you need?” Damion suppressed a snicker knowing Abyss hated when he was called that.  Damion was one of three people that could get away with openly making fun of Abyss, and the only male at that.

Knowing your limits

Abyss crouched on the roof of the old factory across the road from the orphanage.  Behind him was the old N.F.P.D. station.  It seemed all but abandoned, with most of the group having vanished into the unknown.  He chuckled remembering the bronze leader with the cute ass that Damion constantly flirted with.  Abyss’s personal favorite were the twins.  One Lightbringer, one a CHOTA, and both bat shit crazy.

“Hello Keystone.”  The sings song voice sounding like a group of people stopped the Union Guard dead in his tracks.  Sweat broke out on his forehead, and he started visibly shaking.  “What can I do for you?”

Opportunities (part 2)

((Following on from the Opportunities story, Hyle and I realised that this story was going to get complicated and would require a lot of dialogue. Our normal method of taking turns to produce a post just wasn't going to do it so we decided to try and do something neew and instead did a 'slow motion' kind of RP via messaging. This post is the result. The story isn't over yet though as Joe still has to... well, read on and you'll see where it's going.

Road to Home, Grease Pit

It was the following morning after Jessiah had finally shot Tuki's old car, effectively ending its misery in her opinion. That girl had about driven her car into the ground, leaving Jess to wonder just how she was able to go for as long as it must have in it's poor condition. Either way, Jess pulled a very late night stripping the wreck of the reuseable parts and setting them aside. She'd also spent a few hours into the night digging through the boxes that had arrived from new Flaggstaff, 'donations' as it were from Joe Spivey.

Opportunities

It might surprise certain people to learn that Joe Spivey owns a variety of bona-fide legitimate businesses. The ammunition factory, for example, is totally, well almost totally… ok, pretty much totally legitimate. Other legitimate business Joe either owns or is heavily invested in, he became involved in due to either necessity or convenience.

He brought his hand up and stared in disbelief. There was blood on his palm. The blood was his. It was warm. It was dark.

"Baby?" he said, his voice weak and ladden with doubt.

"I'm here," the voice behind him said. The voice was cold. The voice was calm.

"Baby? What... have you done?" he said and fell to his knees. He felt no pain. He was in shock.

I, Rabbit

Veronica heard a voice, opened her eyes, and blinked a few times. 'Am I still asleep?' she said trying to focus on the giant rabbit with glowing eyes crounching in front of her.
"Veronica..." the giant rabbit said calmly. 'I have come to help you lead my bunnies.'
Veronica sat up in her corner of the Luka Lab Storeoom in New Flagstaff.
'Wait,' she said. 'Is this something about time? and loop? and loop?'
The giant rabbit ignored the question, twitched his nose, and said 'They have gone wrong. Bunnies are supposed to be nice and cute.'

Jack looked at his own reflection in window of one of the Flagstaff houses and sighed. It has been only few days since someone trashed his workplace and since then he has been having some hard times.

As if out of a sudden nobody needed "talent scouts" anymore. "Maybe The Union could have some use for me" he thought as he crossed the street. Roar of the engine and screeching of tires disturbed his thoughts

Road to Home, Hope Springs Garage

Jeassiah eyed the car sitting outside of the garage, resting up against one of the fuel pumps and raised an eyebrow. She was told that Tuki dropped off the car but she was not told that this...thing was her ride. In some ways, just even a cursory glance was telling a lot about the car and the outright neglect it seemed to have, and she hesitated a little to go further, but she knew she needed to know everything that was wrong before she could give an honest estimate of what needed to be done and how much it was going to cost to bring up to minimum standards.

A Quiet Place to Be

Pyrok sat atop his dusty green buggy, idly watching a throwback chase a prairie chicken around a boulder - the only entertainment in the stretch of canyon he was in - the pieces of a disassembled helmet in his lap and a toolbox at his side. A particularly angry hammer-wielding raider had taken exception to Pyrok digging around in 'their scrap-yahd' and put a respectable dent in the sturdy steel dome.
